New Year’s Resolutions to Live By

This time every year, many people begin to make New Year’s resolutions, set down goals, and make plans to achieve them. The ugly truth is that only 8% of people achieve their New Year’s resolutions. On the positive side, though, people who vividly describe or picture their goals are anywhere from 1.2 to 1.4 times more likely to successfully accomplish their goals! As we near the end of 2018 at an increasingly rapid motion, now is a great time to reflect on the past year, while also thinking about the upcoming one.

There’s no need to add more to your “to-do” list, but there’s also nothing wrong with making positive changes in your life to bring about a year to remember. At Absolute Wellness Center, we believe in helping you accomplish your health goals, so here are a few things you can do in 2019 that will help both your mental and physical health in the next 12 months and how we can help!

Focus on Self-Care

It can be so easy to race through your schedule, and before you know it, another year is gone and you feel like you didn’t get to fully appreciate it. Take time in 2019 to embrace self-care. Even if you make ten minutes a day to do something that fills you back up, it will help you appreciate the small moments and slow down. We offer the MindFit program at the Lake of the Ozarks, and it’s something you can do from home as well! It’s just 20 relaxing minutes a day, and it provides the option to undo the damaging effects of stress while also eliminating tension and worry. Use Cleaner Products

It’s becoming more and more apparent that the ingredients in the common products that we use may not be helping and could even be hurting. From cleaning to hygiene, the ingredients can make a huge difference in the way you feel. If you don’t know where to start, begin with just one product in your home. Find a replacement for your dish soap, body wash, or chapstick. Once you replace that one, find another! Before you know it, 2019 can show that your home can be filled with great products that help and not harm your body.

Head to the Kitchen

With fad diets taking over and people searching for a healthier lifestyle, getting back into the kitchen is even more important than ever. Pursue health in the items that you eat, and don’t feel like you have to deprive yourself. There are hundreds of recipes that can teach you how to create the comfort food you love while using ingredients that heal your body. If you don’t know where to start, we offer nutritional counseling at the Lake of the Ozarks and would be honored to help you get started.

Unplug Regularly

Modern electronics provide the opportunity to be plugged in 24/7. However, the overload on your senses can increase your risk of depression, social anxiety, job burnout, and even allergies. Challenge yourself in 2019 to unplug and enjoy life with devices. Start with an hour, and then work up to 10 hours, or even a full day without your phone, computer, or television. You could be amazed at how much better you feel, and what adventures your imagination will take you on.

Conquer Clutter

Living in the middle of clutter can sap your energy. You never feel like you can rest, and you’re always busy cleaning it up. Find a way to clean up your mess and eliminate it in 2019. There are hundreds of methods for learning about organization and decluttering, find one that works for you and embrace the freedom that ridding the clutter will bring!

Give Generously

Donating time and money can be a great way to not only support and help your community but to also improve the way you feel as well. There are always reasons not to give, from not having enough time to not having enough money – but both can be overcome easily, and will make you feel better in the end. Start by giving just 1% more than you did last year financially. Find a group that needs the support and enjoy watching what your financial contribution can do! Money is great, but giving your time can be even better. Find a way to volunteer regularly and set goals. You’ll love the opportunity to give to others.

Find An Exercise That You Love

If you don’t make a goal to exercise, it can be amazing at how quickly your week can race by without ever stretching your legs and getting your heart rate going. Find a way to implement an exercise that you enjoy into your routine. Whether this means taking a 30-minute walk after lunch or even walking out to get the mail after work. Small changes in your routine can provide great results when you do them regularly.

Make 2019 A Great Year

We hope that your New Year is filled with health, happiness, and incredible memories. If you have health goals that you would like to achieve, we would be honored to help.
