Getting a Balanced Life in January

Did you know that Getting a Balanced Life was an actual theme for January? Google it and you’ll see that it’s just one of many things that people want to focus on in the New Year (along with Hobby Month, Get Organized Month, and Hot Tea Month). No matter how you feel about resolutions in the New Year, there is no time like the present to make your health a priority. So many people today face high-stress environments, poor eating habits, and not enough sleep. All of this combines for a life that is out of balance, and if we’re guessing right, you can even feel that way sometimes. Life pulls you this way and that way, and instead of being able to enjoy the journey you feel like you’re on a teeter-totter.

Here at Absolute Wellness Center, we make it our goal to help people figure out why they feel out of balance, and how to start getting things back in perspective. One of the biggest factors in finding balance is the health of your nervous system. In fact, until you start with the root of your symptoms, you may find it hard to solve them. Here are a few ways you can do to support your nervous system and bring balance back into your life this month!

Take Time to Breathe

Sure, breathing happens naturally, but are you actually getting big, deep breaths? Taking a deeper, fuller breath is one of the fastest and most effective ways to trigger the relaxation response and calm the nervous system. Just five to ten minutes of full breathing does wonders for restoring an over-stressed nervous system. It also helps lower your heart rate, decreases blood pressure, and releases muscular tension.

Release Upper Body Tension

The tension in your body actually tells your system that you’re stressed, whether you really are or not. By releasing the deeply held tension in your shoulders, neck, and jaw, you can send signals to your parasympathetic nervous system telling it to relax. One of the easiest things you can do to release tension in your upper body is to spend just five minutes lying flat with a small blanket or towel under the bottom tips of your shoulder blades. This is a great time to focus on your deep breathing, as well!

Say No to Sugar

This is a lot harder than it sounds, and we know that. Sugar can be extremely addictive, and when you keep bringing it into your diet, you continue to crave it. Not to mention sugar is a huge factor in inflammation and tearing down your immune system. Think about where you consume the most sugar, is it in your morning coffee? Or perhaps in the afternoon when you start to hit a wall. Think of ways you can replace your sugar with other treats that aren’t as damaging to your health.

Book Your First Appointment

Finally, one of the best things you can do for your health this month is book your first appointment with Absolute Wellness Center. We will walk you through a few tests to see how your body is reacting to stressful situations, and then how it comes back down from those encounters. After that, we’ll go over your results with you and prescribe a healing regimen that can make a huge impact on your nervous system and bringing balance back into your life.
