What’s With Grounding?
Depending on the circles you are in, grounding (aka earthing) could be a phrase you’ve heard a lot, or never before. At Absolute Wellness Center, we realize that it takes a lot of different paths to get to your health destination. While we really hope that our chiropractic office at the Lake of the Ozarks is just one of the paths we can walk with you, there will be other things you can try. For some, it will be diet (we also offer nutritional counseling at the Lake of the Ozarks!), it could be a new exercise practice, a breathing technique, or … grounding. Here are some interesting things we’ve learned about this trending technique, and how you can incorporate it into your healthy lifestyle during the summer months!
For some, this could seem skeptical - but, bear with us for a minute. At its basic level, grounding is just asking you to spend more time outdoors enjoying everything that Mother Nature has to offer. Have you ever spent a day on the Lake and then slept great that night? Chances are you spent your day sitting on one of the beaches, swimming in the water, and relaxing on a big rock watching the sunset, all forms of grounding … and, you guessed it! Better sleep is a benefit to grounding.
If you don’t have a good location to try this, you can invest in grounding mats to place under your desk or grounding sheets for your bed. These can be plugged directly into an outlet, and the grounding system for your house directs the power of the earth right up to you.
What is Grounding?
The concept of grounding, in short, is to put your body in direct contact with the earth. This can include water, dirt, or rock - basically any conductive surface that is in contact with the earth. The science behind it is that the earth as a mild negative charge to it, and over time in modern life, our bodies can build up positive charges. By putting your body in direct contact with the earth, you can help balance the positive charge and return your body to a neutral state. For some, this could seem skeptical - but, bear with us for a minute. When Should You Be Careful With Grounding?
There are a few things to consider when you start grounding. The first is that you need to be aware of where you choose to ground yourself. If you live in a city where many electrical wires are running under the ground, you may actually be having the opposite effect. Another thing to consider is where you are doing this. Do they spray pesticides? Are you considering doing it somewhere like a park where there are lots of people and animals? Obviously, all dirt is dirty, but not all dirt is alike - so pick your place well and enjoy the benefits. If you don’t have a good location to try this, you can invest in grounding mats to place under your desk or grounding sheets for your bed.
