Why Do Our Thoughts Matter?
At Absolute Wellness Center, we make a point to teach and train people how to care for their bodies. We start primarily with the nervous system, because as many studies have shown, this is where everything starts. Your nervous system controls your body, so it's important to make sure that your nervous system is cared for. We do this through our chiropractic treatments at the Lake of the Ozarks, however, YOU can help your nervous system as well.
In addition to chiropractic adjustments in Linn Creek, eating a balanced diet with key nutrition, and getting healthy exercise, there is one more thing that you can do to help your nervous system heal, and this starts with your mind. The mind body connection is an incredible thing, which is why learning how to increase positive thinking, control negative thoughts, and process the experiences in your life is such a valuable tool to learn. We find this so important that we offer the BrainTap program to help program your brain. You can read more about this tool in our past blogs. Today we want to talk about why your thoughts matter, and how negative and positive feelings can impact your mind, your heart, and your body.

Positive Thoughts
We want to help you! Training your brain and your nervous system is one of our specialties, and we can do this through a series of tests at your initial visit. We want to see how your body is reacting to stress, and then how it is coming down from that “high”. In addition to the exercises that we provide for you at your first two visits, there are several things you can do on your own to help improve positive thinking and get the serotonin pumping.
1. Change Perspective
When an experience is causing stress in your life, it can be easy to focus on the bad side, the aspect that exhibits how you were wronged or treated unfairly. Try to challenge your self to find gratitude in the experience.
“Gratitude helps people refocus on what they have instead of what they lack. And, although it may feel contrived at first, this mental state grows stronger with use and practice.” - Harvard Medical School Study, In Praise of Gratitude
2. Express Positivity
As you start to train yourself to think positively, it’s time to go a step farther and EXPRESS positivity. Saying positive things out loud can help the thought process move past anxious, negative emotions. Use words and actions to help your positive thinking.
3. Breathe
It’s easy to react in the heat of a moment. React with anger, emotion, and words. Instead, take a moment to breathe. Now take another. And, take another. Find the calm and take a moment to reflect, it will provide a new perspective (refer to point #1).
Amazingly, many people do not know how to truly breathe. As you work through your education with us, we will offer some breathing exercises that can help your nervous system.

Positive vs. Negative
It’s important to know what is happening in your brain during negative and positive thought processes if you are going to know why you need to make the transformation. Every single thought you think will release some type of chemical. When a positive thought is generated, like when you’re feeling happy or optimistic, your cortisol will decrease and your brain starts producing seratonin. This creates the feeling of well-being, it makes you feel more at peace. Obviously, the opposite is true when you are thinking negatively. When you focus on issues that are stressful, you are actually pumping your body with cortisol and making it worse. That is to say, you are the thoughts you feed - if you feed the positive thoughts, you will feel them. If you feed the negative thoughts, you will feel those as well, and the cycle will just continue.Thoughts at a Glance
