10 Things Men Can Do to Get Healthy - Part 1
The men in your life … it’s not uncommon for them to skip out on visiting the doctor until it’s serious. Either a serious injury, becoming extraordinarily sick, or are faced with a serious health problem - you know it, and still, love them anyway. Many men put health on the back burner, and many have the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality. There are a few quick things the man in your life can do to help take care of the body they’ve been given, and keep the serious doctor visits at bay. You can’t make them follow a healthy lifestyle, but you can always offer some of these suggestions, or even start doing them yourself and see if they would like to join you.
You can’t make anyone drop a habit, so if the man in your life uses tobacco, you can only hope that they choose to cut it out for themselves. There is plenty of information on the internet to show the dangers of tobacco, the high levels of chemicals, and the links it has to cancer. There are ways to stop - if you know someone who would like to quit but isn’t sure how to begin, connect them with us. We offer a program called BrainTap at the Lake of the Ozarks, and one of the many audio sessions that they provide is about smoking cessation. We would be honored to help formulate a plan to assist in changing habits if this is something he would be interested in.
1. Eat Healthily
This can be a little easier for you to have a hand in, especially if you are the primary chef of the home. Not only can you start providing delicious and nutritious foods for them at home, but you can even pack lunches for them and see if they opt for that instead of going out. Balance is key when you are planning meals, so think of healthy fats (butter, oils, and red meats), healthy carbs (fruits and whole grains), and plenty of fresh veggies cooked up with flavor and savory goodness. Limiting sugar and processed foods can go a long way in making a difference in anyone health, but specifically in your man’s life. Not sure where to start? Absolute Wellness Center offers nutritional counseling at the Lake of the Ozarks. Schedule an appointment to get started, we would love to help you come up with an eating plan that is both delicious and nutritious.2. Get Your Groove On
Just 30 minutes of moderate physical activity several days a week can make a huge difference. A short walk in the morning, jogging, swimming, mowing the lawn, these all count! Even short bursts of physical activity, as short as 10 minutes, broke up into several times a day can help improve a man’s health.3. Moderate Alcohol and Lose the Tobacco
Choosing to moderate alcohol can be a huge improvement in many men. Even just choosing better alcohol for you can make a huge difference. Beer, while perfect for an after-work relaxer, is high in sugars and can instantly bloat you and even aid in joint pain and inflammation. Red wine is a healthier choice, and can even offer some wonderful health benefits. Of course, don’t even get us started on sugary mixed drinks - the amount of sugar and alcohol in them can be astonishing, and they definitely do more harm. You can’t make anyone drop a habit, so if the man in your life uses tobacco, you can only hope that they choose to cut it out for themselves. 4. Managing Stress
This is a biggy for men, as most will take on an extraordinary amount of work, and can become bogged down. Without even knowing it, they’ve reached a maxed-out point, and then it feels too late to do anything. At Absolute Wellness Center in Linn Creek, MO, we focus on neurologically based chiropractic at the Lake of the Ozarks. This means that our goal is to help improve our clients' neurological function and obtain a balance where your body responds to stressors. Obviously, managing stress also involves not overtaxing yourself, but for many people in this modern era - overcapacity has done quite the number on us. Even if you bring the stressors down on the outside, your body may not really know how to come back down off of that feeling appropriately anymore. If you want to learn more about this type of chiropractic, visit our website or scroll through this blog. We have TONS of resources to explain the benefits and what makes it so unique.Healthy Starts Here
