Ways to Reduce Stress in the Workplace
This week (September 23rd through the 27th) is International Week of Happiness at Work, and it seems like an appropriate time to address the topic of stress at work. There are many causes of stress in the workplace, some could include juggling work and personal lives (20%), a lack of job security (6%), but the big hitters are people issues (28%), and workload (46%). Those percentages came from the American Institute of Stress, and they also show that 62% of employees end the day with work-related neck pain, experience trouble sleeping, have stressed-out eyes, and hurting hands - many even call in sick because of job stress.
This is a BIG epidemic among employees and employers, and it can be invaluable for people to learn how to not only cope with stress well but also find techniques to rise above it and have the feeling of a meaningful and purpose-filled life.
At Absolute Wellness Center, we place a huge priority on stress and how it affects the body, so it’s only right that we take some time to discuss ways to reduce work-related stress, and how our team can help your body heal from this.

Invest In Good Relationships
Having healthy and supportive relationships can really help when coping with stress. It’s nice to have someone who you can share your thoughts and get things off of your chest with. Obviously, focusing on the negative in life is not going to do you any favors, but sometimes it’s helpful when you can bounce ideas of off someone else and find better ways to handle a situation.Get Exercise!
If you aren’t exercising, now is the time to start! Exercising that lift your mood, increase your energy, and sharpen your focus. If you can aim for at least 30 minutes of activity on most days, that’s a great thing to shoot for. You can also go for walks throughout the day to de-stress. Take a leisurely walk during your lunch break, or plan for walks during your shorter breaks throughout the day.Eat Good Food
We’ve spent a lot of time talking about the importance of eating healthy foods, so you can look through our past blogs for details, but in short, there are a few things you need to know. Reducing your sugar consumption helps avoid energy crashes. Eating more OMEGA-3 fatty acids can help improve your mood. You also want to avoid stimulants like caffeine or nicotine.Get Rest
Aiming for eight hours of sleep should give you the right amount to start your day right. You also want to turn off your screens off one hour before you want to go to bed to help your body start relaxing.Get Organized
Make priorities that you want to hit through your day, and organize yourself so that you can achieve them. One thing you can do is to plan regular breaks throughout your day. You are legally given break times during a workday, so get clear on what those are and take them. Make a list of your most important work tasks and do them earlier in the day. If you have people you can delegate to, do it! If you have tasks that don’t have to be done by you, be sure to pass them to the appropriate team members.Work On Bad Habits
Are you a perfectionist? Many are and don’t even realize the hold that it has on them. Working through this bad habit can help reduce your stress as you spend more time than you would think perfecting things that you can’t, or putting off things because you’re afraid you can’t do them right. Spend time building up the habit of thinking positively, and don’t beat yourself up over the little things. Finally, don’t sweat over things that are out of your control. You know the items, and you know how much of a toll they can take on you. Do what you can to with the things in your control, and let go of those that aren’t.Can Chiropractic Help?
MANY studies can showcase the value of chiropractic adjustments when you are stressed. We specifically focus on neurologically based chiropractic at the Lake of the Ozarks. If you aren’t familiar with the value of this type of adjustment, we invite you to check out our website. We have TONS of information about it there, and here on our blog. We also offer the BrainTap program, which can be seen as similar to meditation, but it’s so much more. These techniques work together to help your body learn about the appropriate way to react and in turn, come down from stress on a day to day basis.Ready to schedule your first chiropractic appointment at the Lake of the Ozarks?
