Fourth of July with a Healthy Bang!
As the holiday kicks off, you’ll probably be out of the house enjoying time with friends and family and sitting around the dinner table (or the picnic table!). Of course, sometimes the holidays can leave you feeling even more exhausted than before when you realize the foods you’ve consumed, the late nights, and the dehydration from hot summer afternoons. At Absolute Wellness Centers, we want to give you some simple reminders to help keep your holidays happy and healthy!
Think About Your Drink
Surgery and alcoholic beverages are infamous for dehydrating and draining you. Not to mention, they are FILLED with calories that are only going to spike your blood sugar, make you feel drained, and pack on pounds you don’t want to carry around. We’re not saying don’t drink anything fun or special, but find ways to enjoy your favorites drinks without the extra calories or only enjoy a select few. Just remember, most Fourth of July celebrations happen outdoors, from parades to pool parties, and evening BBQs - this means that you will be losing water at rapid rates. Feeling thirsty? Chug some water before jumping straight to your soda.Get Active!
When you spend entire days sitting and relaxing, you will actually end up feeling more tired. Make the most of your Fourth of July celebration by finding ways to get up and get out! Whether you and the family go for an early morning bike ride, a hike at the local State Parks, or family tournaments with volleyball or kickball - get up!Keep Desserts Moderated
See that delicious blueberry pie from Aunt Sally? Don’t feel like you can’t enjoy and indulge at all! However, keep in mind that the difference between a big slice and a small slice isn’t just lots of sugar, but it’s energy draining as well. Take a small slice, put some ice cream on it, and sit down to relish it. When you are standing around talking and eating, it’s much harder for you to appreciate the indulgences. So, when you want to enjoy that delicious piece of pie, find a nice place to sit down, find some enjoyable company, and indulge! Then head back to the veggie tray if you still feel hungry.Choose the Small Plate
Did you know that research is showing that if you use a smaller plate, you will consume 50% fewer calories? If you reach for the small plate instead of the large one, you can still try many different items on the food table, but you won’t be as apt to overeat just for merely experiencing the hand to mouth action.Keep An Eye on Others
Finally, keep an eye out for the others around you. If you find that someone is limping or tilting their neck side to side (whether from a Fourth of July injury or just a long-standing pain), be sure to suggest that the visit a chiropractor at the Lake of the Ozarks. When you get a lot of people together, especially for activity and fun, it isn’t uncommon for someone to experience the pain of an accident.Holistic Care at the Lake of the Ozarks
